Nile River Explorers (N.R.E) came to Uganda in 1995 and were the first to scout the Nile River and obtain a license for commercial river rafting. Inviting experienced river guides from around the world to lead their trips and supported by world-class safety kayakers, NRE has become the most popular rafting company in Uganda.

The day features five 'grade 5' rapids as well as numerous slightly lesser graded rapids.

All trips are filmed and a fully edited DVD is available to purchase at the end of the day.

The Ugandan guides at NRE are the only Ugandan guides operating on the Nile to be fully trained. They all hold the internationally accepted Swift Water Training and Rescue as well as Wilderness Trauma Response and First Aid certificates.

While in the Jinja area we offer you two budget accommodation options, Explorers Backpackers situated in Jinja and Explorers Campsite, situated 8kms downstream from the source above Bujagali falls. This is undoubtedly the campsite in Africa with the most awesome setting.

NRE's portfolio was significantly enhanced with the opening of our 'Safari styled tented camp' The Nile Porch and 50 seat a la carte restaurant The Black Lantern. Both are situated high up on the banks of the Nile and offer beautiful views of the river below. The Nile Porch and Black Lantern are to be found at Bujagali, 8kms from Jinja.

New to NRE in 2006 and what has become a very popular activity for visitors are local Mountain Bike Tours from both our Backpackers and Bujagali Campsite.

Soft Power aims to develop and improve educational facilities for children mainly in the primary sector.
